You will help. The knight is afraid. Yet his relief floods your haven. Floods you. It is loud. It is bright. It is palpable. It is hope. Love. It is him.

Thank you.

A flash of colour. A rushing. It is your own power disrupting you this time. Your haven vanishes. The knight vanishes. You can still feel him. He is still seeing through you. It is discomfort. You continue to allow it.

The knight leads you. Time and space pass by in an instant. It would be overwhelming to a human. It is life to you. The knight does not react. You suppose it is life to him as well.

The world stills. The sand in the hourglass settles. The flying dart finds purchase in the map. You are where the knight wants you.

It is a room. Sparse. One bed. One cabinet. One desk. One chair. One closet. Two doors. You do not need to look through them to know where they lead. A bathroom. A long hall. From that hall are more rooms. Identical to this one.

On the wall is a map. A television. A window. A framed page of information. It is dark beyond the window. Dark and loud. The map is large but shows only a small area. A few cities. A handful of towns.

On the desk is a laptop. A lamp. A notepad. An pen. A remote. The laptop and notepad are open. The laptop bears a green sticker beside the mousepad. A minecraft slime. The notepad bears scribbles and doodles.

The cabinet sits beside the bed. On it is a phone. The time it shows is 21:57. The date it shows is 01-01.

On the bed is a young man. Soft brown skin. Long hair spread out on the pillow. Clothes wrinkled. Arms spread wide. Eyes open. Staring. Not seeing. Awake. Not aware. Alive. Not living.

Avery…

This is Avery. The friend of the knight. The reason for your visit.

He does not seem like much.

He is

He is life.

He is human.

You need to show him I'm alive.

You are without form. You are concept. You are knowledge and reality. You cannot show the young man anything.

Can't you interact with the world? Steal his pillow or something?

Your powers in this world are limited. You can only do so much. Small things. Short movements. You look around the room.

The window is unlatched. It would not take much effort to push it open. You do not know what it would achieve. But the young man would be sure to see it.

The sticker on the laptop seems loose. It would be easy to peel it a little further.

That laptop was mine. I didn't even know Avery yet when I put the sticker on it. I just thought it was silly when I saw it and decided I wanted something to decorate my keyboard to be honest.

The knight is yearning. You feel it. It is strange and alien to you. If he had a body in this place he would be touching the sticker. You do not know what it means. Yet you know it means something. It would be very effective if the young man were to see the movement.

You have a choice to make.
